DONATION ADVENTURE IN THE kurdish PART OF TURKEY

Please don’t think we forgot you! We had a hard time with visa issues but that’s a story for another blog post.

This one is about the last donation!

WE HAVE SUPPLIED 5 FAMILIES WITH FOOD FOR AT LEAST TWO WEEKS AND PURCHASED JACKETS AND SHOES FOR THOSE WHO NEEDED WINTERCLOTHING.

Together with our wonderful Couchsurfing host Kevin, who had already tried in advance to contact the families, we managed to put a smile on the face of 25 people during our short stay in Van.

It was a very special experience to visit the families in their homes, drink the always welcomed cay-tea with them and listen to their stories while sitting on the floor together. In three of the five families, no father was around, who is the head of the family in Kurdish culture. One of them was in prison for political reasons and another one for drug trafficking. The third father had died of cancer just one week before our visit, leaving behind his wife and four children whose grief was still written deeply all over their faces.

We learned a lot about the discontent of the Kurdish community and their situations. In addition, we were shown the image of a son who had died fighting for the Kurdish rights.

Thanks to Travel for Smiles, we have come to the privilege of getting to know the people behind the headlines and feel once again reassured in what we do.

WHAT WE GOT WITH YOUR DONATIONS:

6 winter jackets and 6 pairs of winter shoes for 166.11 €

Food for € 140.25: More than 15 kg of fruits and 30 kg of vegetables, 150 eggs, 5 chickens, 12.5 kg of rice, 12.5kg of noodles, 5 kg of lentils, 10 liters of oil, 2.5 kg of tea, biscuits, Hygiene articles, 5 puzzles for the kids
